An introduction to Duncan Nunn

Your career to date?
I left school at 18 after my A levels and went to work for the then Midland Bank. After 5 years in banking I learned one important thing, that I didn't want a career in banking! I did however enjoy the Financial Services Sector and wanted a career where I was remunerated on my performance, so I joined the Co-operative Insurance Society in 1988 and spent 18 happy years there.

I decided to progress my career and become IFA in 2006 rather than be tied to one company. The move was the right one and I have thoroughly enjoyed the Independence and extra opportunities that being an IFA has provided. My clients have been very loyal and I see myself staying Independent until I retire and I am concentrating on building my business and client base. It gives me a personal buzz to see pensions and investments that I have set up and nurture make a real difference to people. The Financial Services Sector faces continual challenges, but I'm a positive guy and I firmly believe that Independent Financial Advice from qualified professionals is the way forward.

If you could offer one piece of financial advice to an individual, what would it be and why?
Plan ahead - it can save a lot of heartache.

Which areas of financial planning do you feel an individual should be addressing in the next 2 years?
Retirement planning, reviewing financial protection (as most people's financial situations change over the years) and saving for the children's education/ house deposit.

What is the most common mistake you find individuals make in financial planning?
Not giving it the time or priority it deserves.
